Hikers High Five

How This Project Started

Hello, and welcome. I am so glad you are here! I’m Ashley and I have been on this entrepreneurial journey with my husband Jeff for almost a decade now and it has been one crazy ride! The truth is that even though there are so many wonderful things that come with the territory of being a spouse of an entrepreneur, I’ve also struggled quite a bit and so has our relationship.

It’s common knowledge that starting and building a business is not for the faint at heart. It takes an extraordinary amount of hard work, dedication, persistence, optimism, and resilience. I also think the majority of couples would agree that building a strong marriage also takes many of those same qualities. So, when you are simultaneously trying to succeed at both ventures, it can seem like an impossible task!

A few years back I started questioning if it was even possible to thrive in my own life, maintain a strong marriage and concurrently juggle all of the additional demands, twists and turns, highs and lows, and uncertainties that this entrepreneurial lifestyle was throwing at us.

So, I set out to find resources to help me navigate these uncharted waters, and to my surprise, despite the thousands of resources out there devoted specifically to helping the entrepreneur, there is very little out there for the spouse and the relationship. Therefore, I decided to create Joint Venture Marriage. A resource devoted to how spouses of entrepreneurs can thrive in their lives and marriage despite some of the unique challenges that we face with having the business as a third party in our marriage.

I am by no means a relationship expert and more often than not, my life can look like a hot mess; but just like you, I have become an expert in being the spouse of an entrepreneur. In this blog, I will share my own journey through many struggles, challenges, failures, and successes over the past 10 years, as well as draw on my background in the field of Performance and Resilience Psychology to provide evidence-based best practices to navigate these challenges. In other words, it’s a combination of my experience and the advice I wish I had 10 years ago (and as recently as yesterday) each time a new challenge appears.

I will also share endless amounts of research on the subject, and interviews with dozens of other spouses and entrepreneur couples who showcase what thriving can look like.

My hope is that by sharing stories, tips, and anecdotes from powerhouse entrepreneurial couples it will encourage you to live your best life while also maintaining a happy, healthy relationship with your entrepreneur. Thanks for reading!
